General Election 2007

Bernard Lennon

In 2007, Bernard Lennon ran for the Green Party in the Tipperary South Constituency. In a very tightly fought constituency, where a real fight set in among all candidates once opinion polls showed the votes split fairly evenly between one FG, three FF, one labour and one independant candidate, the six of whom were fighting for three seats, first preference votes were not easy to pick up. Nonetheless, Bernard outpolled the combined vote of the two PD candidates, taking one in sixty of the first preference votes cast by the electorate.

Bernard is a stone mason by trade, and has qualifications in public management and safety, health and welfare at work. He now works as a fire safety officer and, as well as being actively involved in the local community, is an active mountain walker. 2007 was his first time standing as a general election candidate.
